wwii living history revisited

once upon a time there were little boys in cub scout uniforms. they liked ships and airplanes, all things mechanical and military, and retired chief grampas were considered cool. fast forward close to a decade. after completing a study on wwii war in the pacific, we returned to an old haunt: the uss hornet, followed by a visit to the naval museum, where one day many years ago the grampa showed the boys how to hold a flag ceremony. this time the chief showed them some gems of the museum. the boys are bigger, older, more mature, more attentive. in the mix on this day: one is gearing up for his eagle, one is a sea cadet. but they still think ships and airplanes and all things mechanical and military are cool. i suspect they appreciate the grampa even more now. great day. thanks mom and dad. and mom and grama, thanks for lunch!

a fortuitous visit: the artist of this new mural was on hand and willing to discuss his work.
